Migrating email

To migrate email from Microsoft 365 to A2 Hosting, follow these steps:

  1. If you want to migrate existing Microsoft 365 email messages to A2 Hosting, then you must first back up the current email account data stored on the Microsoft 365 server.
  2. Log in to cPanel.
If you do not know how to log in to your cPanel account, please see this article.
  3. Create email accounts that match the account names you have on Microsoft 365. For example, if you have a [email protected] account on Microsoft 365, then create an email account in cPanel for [email protected] as well.

For information about how to create email accounts in cPanel, please see this article.
  4. Update the MX, SPF, and CNAME DNS records in cPanel to point to your domain.

    • For information about how to update MX records in cPanel, please see this article.
    • For information about how to update SPF (Sender Policy Framework) records in cPanel, please see this article.
    • For information about how to use the Zone Editor in cPanel to update DNS records, please see this article.
  5. Wait a few hours for DNS propagation to complete.
  6. Configure the newly-created email accounts in Microsoft Outlook:

    • For information about how to configure Outlook 365 and Outlook 2016, please see this article.
    • For information about how to configure Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2010, please see this article.
    • For information about how to configure Outlook on Android, please see this article.
    • For information about how to configure Outlook on iOS, please see this article.
  7. If you did not back up your existing email messages in step 1, you are done. If you did back up your existing messages, restore them using the .pst file you created in step 1. To do this, follow these steps:

    • Start Outlook.
    • On the File menu, click Open & Export, and then click Import/Export.
    • Click Import from another program or file, and then click Next.
    • Click Outlook Data File (.pst), and then click Next.
    • Click Browse, select the .pst file, and then click Open.
    • Select how you want to handle duplicate data during the import process, and then click Next.
    • Select the import settings, and then click Finish. Outlook imports the data from the .pst file.
