This article discusses the ICANN domain validation process.
As of 2013, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) now requires validation of the registrant WHOIS contact information whenever you:
When you purchase and register a new domain, you receive a message at the e-mail address you specified as the domain's registrant. To activate the domain, click the hyperlink in the message.
When you update the registrant WHOIS contact information (first name, last name, or e-mail address) for an existing domain, you receive a message at the e-mail address you specified as the new registrant. To verify the new registrant contact information, click the hyperlink in the message.
Domain name status codes provide information about the status of a registered domain name. All domains have at least one status code, and sometimes more.
To obtain the status code information for a domain, run a WHOIS lookup. For detailed information about all of the possible domain status codes and what they mean, please visit https://icann.org/epp.
